Las Vegas and the Marijuana Movement
Once a year the Las Vegas strip sees one of the largest events in the world of marijuana. The Marijuana Business Conference and Expo, which is hosted by Marijuana Business Daily, is the single largest expo of its kind in America. It is such a popular event that it has spawned a whole series of other marijuana-themed events to coincide with the expo. Such events include fundraisers for the cause, mixers and product launch events, and even an after-party thrown by Arcview. With so many patrons visiting the city during these events, it should come as no surprise that Las Vegas is considered one of the meccas of the legal marijuana movement.
The event took place in November of 2016,2017, 2018 and 2019, and this year saw the largest number of attendees in the history of the expo. In 2015, there were about 5,500 who showed up, but the 2016 expo saw roughly 38,000. That number will surely continue to expand as the legal marijuana industry continues to expand as well. These visitors are attending the massive numbers of secondary events as well, so the entire city gets taken over by marijuana during this time.
The Marijuana Business Conference and Expo has been around since 2012 when the first event was held. This happened hot on the heels of the legalization of recreational marijuana in Colorado and Washington, and the first expo took place in Denver. There were only 300 people or so at that first event, which goes to show just how much the movement has advanced in these few short years. Those first 600 visitors were like the pioneers of the movement, and each was probably brimming with excitement at the possibility of a world without marijuana prohibition.
Since the expo has grown so large, it was moved to The Rio in Las Vegas. The expo is such a great indicator of the health of the cannabis industry because it basically represents the forefront of thought and progress in the field. More than half of Americans now agree that marijuana should be legalized, and the overwhelming scientific weed data is essentially indisputable. It won’t be long before federal prohibition is lifted, but there are still some major steps that must be taken first.
This expo is one that will surely be around for quite some time, and visitors should happily donate to any active charities working at the expo. The more you can give, the more likely the fight against the phony War on Drugs will be won especially now that there is legal recreational weed in Las Vegas. The businesses at the expo are the ones fighting on the front lines of reform, and they need all the help they can get
